BACH, MOZART AND SCHUBERT

Friday 14th February at 8.00pm

St James Church, Gerrards Cross

IAIN LEDINGHAM (Conductor/Piano)

JENNIFER STINTON (Flute)

  • J.S. BACH • Piano Concerto in D minor

  • C.P.E. BACH • Flute Sonata in G minor

  • J.S. BACH • Piano Concerto in A major

  • MOZART • Flute Concerto in D major

  • SCHUBERT • Symphony No. 5

J.S. Bach composed numerous concertos for keyboard – originally played on the harpsichord but equally effective and delightful when played on the piano.  The concert begins with the grandest of his concertos, in D minor.  The outer movements, pervaded by relentless rhythmic drive, frame a poignant Adagio.  By way of contrast, his Concerto in A major is radiantly joyful.  Between the concertos we include a beautiful flute sonata by his famous son, C.P.E. Bach.

We welcome back Jennifer Stinton to play Mozart’s sparkling Flute Concerto in D major.  Her distinguished career has included recordings of concertos with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra.  Jennifer has also played as Guest Principal Flute in many of the major orchestras including a long spell with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

We end the concert with Schubert’s beguiling Symphony No. 5 in B flat, a work of endless charm and warmth of feeling.

Tickets:   £30 (premium seats, reserved)   £25 (reserved)   £20 (reserved)   £5 (students)
